Pokemon Sword and Shield have finally arrived on Nintendo Switch and that means there’s a new adventure to be the very best there ever was. On your quest to do exactly that, you’ll need to catch yourself a fair amount of Pokemon. If you’re looking to get more water-type Pokemon, then fishing is a great way to bolster your numbers. Here’s how to fish in Pokemon Sword and Shield.
Fishing in Pokemon Sword & Shield
The good news is that in Pokemon Sword and Shield you don’t have to worry about getting yourself a fishing rod. You’ll already have one in your inventory ready to go.
To fish, you’ll first need to look out for shadows in the water. They’re normally round, circular-looking shadows, but this indicates that there’s a Pokemon lurking underneath. When you see a shadow, press A by the side of the water and you’ll throw out your line.
Now it’s simply a case of waiting for the Pokemon to bite. As soon as it does, you’ll see your fishing rod move. Press A as soon as you see the rod move and your controller vibrate and you’ll reel in the Pokemon to begin the battle. If you’re not fast enough with this, you’ll fail this little fishing mini-game and you’ll have to throw your line out on a shadow all over again.
You’ll then be able to catch it to add it to your Pokedex, or you can just fight it and defeat it for that precious EXP to level up your Pokemon.
