Pokemon Sword and Shield are the newest mainline Pokemon games to come to the Nintendo Switch and with it comes new Pokemon and an entirely new locale, the Galar region. If you were wondering if you can go to other regions in Pokemon Sword and Shield, we might have some bad news for you.
Can You Go to Other Regions in Pokemon Sword and Shield?
We hate it to break it to you, but unfortunately, you cannot travel to past regions like Kanto and Johto in Pokemon Sword and Shield. These two new entries are focused entirely on the Galar region and that’s it.
There’s no secret boat or train that’ll take you on another adventure and there are only eight badges to collect, just like most of the main entries as of late.
Will There Be an Update to Add Other Regions?
If you’re wondering about a possible update to add other locations to Sword and Shield, I wouldn’t bet on it. Typically, mainline Pokemon games don’t get paid downloadable content and adding an entire region to the game would be a massive feat.
It’s unfortunate that Pokemon Sword and Shield doesn’t allow players to go to other regions but the Galar region is bustling with things to do and the variety in gameplay and features makes it a pretty cool place to explore.
