Pokemon Let’s Go: Can You Disable Motion Controls? What You Need to Know

Can You Disable Motion Controls in Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee?

Recommended Videos

During Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee’s advertising, it was made abundantly clear that the game could be played with motion controls. Like the mobile game, Pokemon GO, players must aim their Pokeballs at the on-screen Pokemon in order to capture them. However, there are of course some people who would rather play the game in a more traditional style, without motion controls. Here’s whether or not you can disable motion controls in Pokemon Let’s Go.

Considering that the game could be played entirely in handheld mode, it wouldn’t be too much fun to have to physically swing your Switch every time you want to attempt to catch a Pokemon.

In terms of the question “can motion controls be disabled,” the answer is no. But, this doesn’t mean that you’ll have to look like a Pokemaniac when playing the game on the bus either; motion controls are handled differently in both docked mode and handheld mode.

When playing the game docked, motion controls are always required to catch Pokemon.

Whether you’re using the Joy-Con or the Poke Ball Plus accessory, the only way to catch Pokemon is to make a swinging motion. Motion controls cannot be turned off whatsoever in docked mode.

Docked mode isn’t the only way to play this game co-op, however. Whether you’re playing on your TV, or on the go in handheld mode, when a second player joins in, they can also swing their controller to lob some Poke Balls. If you both throw them at the exact same time, they’ll become a super ball of sorts to increase your chances of securing the catch.

When it comes to handheld mode, the game plays a little differently. Yes, Pokemon Let’s Go players are still required to use motion controls to catch Pokemon, but in handheld mode, you don’t have to swing the system.

Instead, Let’s Go’s handheld mode uses gyro aim for catching Pokemon. The Switch has to be moved around in order to aim, and the A button is used to throw the Pokeball.

This is the only way to play the game in handheld mode. Similarly to docked mode, motion controls cannot be turned off.

It should be noted that motion controls are only required for catching. When battling, everything is controlled with traditional button controls.

While some people would like to be able to turn off motion controls entirely, it just isn’t possible in Let’s Go. Instead, you have a choice between swinging your controller in docked mode or using gyro aiming in handheld mode.

That’s all there is to know about whether or not you can disable motion controls in Pokemon Let’s Go. For more on the game, check out our wiki.
