Tips for How to Catch Legendary Pokemon in Pokemon GO

Recommended Videos

Niantic has finally added in some legendary Pokemon into Pokemon GO, and players are excited to get their hands on these powerful creatures. As of right now, there are only two available (Articuno and Lugia) but they are extremely powerful and well worth the effort, which is a good thing because you’re going to need to put in a lot. To help you out we have a few tips to make catching legendary Pokemon in Pokemon GO just a little bit easier.

You have some time to prepare

When an egg appears over a nearby Gym, you’ll have around 48 hours to prepare for the upcoming Legendary Raid. Use this opportunity to train up some of your strongest Pokemon as well as organize as many players to join you during the fight (and get them to train as well). Articuno and Lugia each have over 30,000 CP, so neither is a pushover, so get ready for a tough fight.

Golden Razz Berries

Catching legendary Pokemon in Pokemon GO is no easy feat, so bring something to help your chances. Razz Berries make Pokemon friendly and thus easier to catch. Golden Razz Berries have the strongest effect. Since legendaries have among the lowest catch success rates in Pokemon GO, you’ll want to feed them a little something to better your chances.

Master Balls

If you have Master Balls in Pokemon go, they make catching legendary Pokemon a bit easier (though nothing is guaranteed). These are the most powerful you can use, so if you’ve been holding on to a couple, now is the perfect time to use them.

Counters

Fun fact, Articuno counters Lugia quite strongly, so if you’ve gotten lucky enough to catch that powerful beast already, your life will be just a little bit easier come raid time when Lugia awaits atop a gym.
