Mega Abomasnow Raid Guide for Pokemon GO
There’s no doubt that Mega Abomasnow is the easiest Mega raid to come to Pokemon GO so far. Even without a weather boost, this raid can easily be completed by just three trainers. Clear or Sunny weather just makes it even easier and enables this raid to be completed by just two trainers.
Throw in a Fire-type Mega to boost Fire raid counters even further and you’ll take out Mega Abomasnow in no time. If your counters for this raid are all 30 or higher, then all of these extra boosts are kind of overkill. But it’s still nice to have them so you can finish the raid extremely quickly and get tons of Abomasnow Mega Energy.
Mega Abomasnow Weaknesses
Part of the reason why Abomasnow is so easily defeated is thanks to its weaknesses. This Mega has many, but none more glaring than its Fire weakness. A solid team of six Mega Abomasnow raid counters should do the trick. If that’s not feasible for you, then you can check out the other weaknesses that Mega Abomasnow has below:

Best Mega Abomasnow Raid Counters
Again, your best bet here for winning the Mega Abomasnow raid is going to be picking Fire-type counters. Just load up with your best ones, find at least two friends, and go to town on this Mega raid boss.
The Mega Abomasnow raid counters listed in this guide are from a Pokebattler simulation with level 35 ‘mons and no attack boosts of any kind. Mega and Shadow Pokemon will be listed in their own ways since they’re currently quite costly and difficult to obtain.
- Megas:
- Mega Charizard Y (Fire Spin|Blast Burn)
- Weather Boost: Clear/Sunny
This is the biggest counter that you can have on your team for the Mega Abomasnow raid. There’s nothing that can match it statistically and it’ll give all of the other Fire-types in battle a boost to their attacks. You may want to stagger them if each trainer has one so you can prolong the time of the Fire-type buff. - Mega Charizard X (Fire Spin|Blast Burn)
- Weather Boost: Clear/Sunny
Mega Charizard X is another fantastic counter for taking on the Mega Abomasnow raid. However, its partial Dragon typing makes it susceptible to Mega Abomasnow’s Outrage. Charizard X is powerful, but just not as safe as Charizard Y. - Mega Houndoom (Fire Fang|Flamethrower)
- Weather Boost: Clear/Sunny
Mega Houndoom is a great option, but it’s still no Mega Charizard Y. It’s a slightly better Mega Abomasnow raid counter than Charizard X and it isn’t weak to Outrage. But if many players may be low on its Mega Energy thanks to its usefulness against Mega Gengar.
- Reshiram (Fire Fang|Overheat)
- Weather Boost: Clear/Sunny
Reshiram is a beastly counter in the Mega Abomasnow raid, even rivaling Mega Charizard X. However, the only downfall it has is the same as that Charizard X. It’s a fantastic Fire-type attacker, but it’ll get wiped out too quickly by Outrage. But if Outrage isn’t on the table, then this is a completely different story. - Darmanitan (Fire Fang|Overheat)
- Weather Boost: Clear/Sunny
We’re finally onto the first non-Mega or non-legendary Pokemon for the Mega Abomasnow raid. Even though Darmanitan is relatively new, it has been available in many different ways. Better yet it’s also a powerful Fire-type that can easily withstand a barrage of Grass and Ice attacks that Mega Abomasnow launches at it. - Heatran (Fire Sping|Flamethrower)
- Weather Boost: Clear/Sunny
And just like that, we’re back to the Legendary Pokemon. Heatran has been a good reliable Fire-type counter since it released and the same remains true here. Best of all, its partial Steel typing makes it the only Mega Abomasnow raid counter that resists Outrage. - Entei* (Fire Fang|Overheat)
- Weather Boost: Clear/Sunny
Even though Entei isn’t a defensive monster, it’ll still survive decently well against Mega Abomasnow. Overheat takes a long time to charge, but the amount of damage it deals is worth the extra time. The Shadow version of this Legendary Pokemon is one of the best counters for the Mega Abomasnow raid. - Chandelure (Fire Spin|Overheat)
- Weather Boost: Clear/Sunny
Unfortunately, there isn’t a Shadow version of Chandelure yet. But the original is pretty impressive on its own. Don’t even think about using Shadow Ball here though. It’s a great attack but just focus on using Fire attacks to take out Mega Abomasnow. - Moltres* (Fire Spin|Overheat)
- Weather Boost: Clear/Sunny
Moltres rounds out this list of the best Mega Abomasnow raid counters. Even though the Frost Tree Pokemon is weak to Moltres’ Flying-type attacks, it’ll take even more damage from Fire moves. If you have a Shadow Moltres, then use it. Only Mega Charizard Y is a better option for this raid.

Mega Abomasnow Raid Moveset
The Mega Abomasnow raid is tons of fun because all of the Pokemon that deal super effective damage to it also resist most of the raid boss’ attacks. The one exception is the Charge Attack, Outrage. But even that isn’t enough to make this Mega raid scary.
Fast Attacks
- Razor Leaf (Grass)
- Weather Boost: Clear/Sunny
Yawn. Razor Leaf is usually a good fast attack, but not against Fire-type Pokemon. But just to make things a little interesting, if the game tells you to put in Metagross and don’t realize it, then it’ll still resist Ice and Grass attacks. Nothing to worry about here. - Powder Snow (Ice)
- Weather Boost: Snow
Just like with Razor Leaf, Powder Snow is normally an intimidating attack to face. In the end, the counters that you pick for the Mega Abomasnow raid will more than likely resist this attack as well.
Charge Attacks
- Outrage (Dragon)
- Weather Boost: Windy
This is the only attack Mega Abomasnow has that introduces any level of difficulty to the raid. Heatran will resist it and not take as much damage as some of your other Fire-type counters. But it probably won’t get to use this attack much with the amount of damage you’ll be inflicting in a short amount of time. Don’t even worry about dodging. - Blizzard (Ice)
- Weather Boost: Snow
Blizzard is still a little scary since it can still do major damage to Fire-types. Realistically, you may still get in more than one charge attack even if Mega Abomasnow has this attack. That fact combined again with the massive damage you’ll be dealing almost makes Blizzard seem tame. - Weather Ball (Ice)
- Weather Boost: Snow
And it only gets worse. Weather Ball charges more quickly than Blizzard or Outrage, but it does so little damage that it’s not worth worrying about. Just keep on tapping the screen until that big icy tree monster faints. - Energy Ball (Grass)
- Weather Boost: Clear/Sunny
This is another one of those attacks that can be dangerous in other cases but is absolutely not even a concern in this raid. To make matters worse for Mega Abomasnow, when it gets boosted by weather, all of the raid counters will also get their Fire-type attacks boosted.
