Overwatch’s new Year of the Rooster event, has brought forth new skins, voice lines, sprays, and a new game mode called Capture the Rooster. The new game mode is very similar to Capture the Flag modes commonly found in FPS titles, but the large and varied hero pool of Overwatch adds another layer of strategy to popular mode. Here are the some tips and strategies for the newest game mode.

Once you are in the game then it is best to have teammates who chose slower moving characters stay behind and defend the point and have teammates who chose characters with the most mobility go after the flag. The exception to this rule is Mei. Met is a slow moving character, but she can be helpful on the attack and the defense because she can stop attackers from escaping with the flag, or prevent defenders from chasing her team with her wall ability. Once your team is in the lead, the whole team can choose to stay behind and defend as the team with most flags captured will win when the clock runs out.

Now that you know the general strategy, let’s take a look at the best heroes to use.

Overwatch Year of the Rooster Capture the Flag: Best Heroes

A lot of the wins in the Capture the Rooster event have to do with team composition, as in most Overwatch matches, who you pick has a big impact on how the game goes. For defending the flag, builder characters tend to do really well. Characters like Symmetra and Torbjörn are really good at watching glad because they have their turrets to alert them of any incoming attackers. For capturing the other team’s flag, players with lots of speed and mobility are good for going on the offense and taking the other team’s flag.

DPS characters such as Soldier 76, Sombra, Tracer, and Genji are great for going in quick and taking the flag and running back quickly. Tanks such as D.VA and Winston also shine in this mode for the same reason. If your teammates choose slower moving characters like Roadhog or McCree, then Lucio is a great pick for cases like this.

Good luck heroes, and enjoy the event!
