The Outer Worlds has a lot of what you’d expect from an RPG from the studio behind Fallout: New Vegas. There are complex quests to complete, interesting characters to get to know, and perks to improve your own hero. So that you can get stronger in battle and better in intense conversations, here’s everything you need to know about how to equip perks in Outer Worlds.
You get XP in The Outer Worlds for pretty much everything you do. Killing an enemy, using skills in conversations, and completing parts of quests will all give you XP towards leveling up.
Then, every second level you go up, you’ll unlock a new Perk Point. You can also acquire them through gameplay, such as by accepting a Flaw, but the most common way is by leveling up.
How to Equip Perks in Outer Worlds
To spend the points you earn and equip perks, press the touchpad if you’re on PS4 (View if you’re on Xbox One) and use L1/LB to go to the character menu.
Then, use the triggers to tab over to the Perks section of the Character menu. Find the perk you want to spend your point on and press X/A to highlight it.
Then, with the perk you want highlighted, press square if you’re PS4 (X on Xbox One) to confirm it and equip the perk. Once you’ve done that, it’s permanent; there’s no way of un-equip perks once you’ve bought them.
You need to equip five perks to unlock the next tier, so you can mix and match the tiers of perks once you’ve unlocked some.
