Octopath Traveler: How to Equip Support Skills

How to Equip Support Skills in Octopath Traveler

Recommended Videos

Octopath Traveler is the Nintendo Switch exclusive and highly anticipated JRPG from Square Enix that features stunning pixel-art, a moving soundtrack, and a deep story. That story features eight characters, each of which you can play as, and being a JRPG, you are able to upgrade each of them, seeing them learn skills and improve as you play. The skills system is deeper than that, however, with support skills also being available for each of the playable characters. Here’s how you equip support skills in Octopath Traveler.

First thing that you need to know is that you will not start learning support skills immediately in Octopath Traveler. You actually learn a support skill for every main skill you learn, after unlocking four skills. Skills are unlocked with JP (job points), which your characters earn during battles. Using those points on skills will allow you to do more than a standard attack in battle. Be careful which skills you spend your points on, however, because the JP cost increases for each skill you unlock. In short, once you’ve unlocked your fourth skill in Octopath Traveler, a new support skill will unlock for every one after that. Once you start unlocking them, you will need to equip them to make use of them.

To do so, head to the menu by pressing the + on your Nintendo Switch controller of choice. Then, choose the skills option and select the Equip Support Skills option. A window will then pop up allowing you to equip them. Once you do so from that window, they will be active in the game.

That’s all you need to know about how to equip support skills in Octopath Traveler on Nintendo Switch. For more tips and tricks on the game, be sure to check out our extensive wiki guide.
