How to Continue a Story (Tale) in Octopath Traveler

Recommended Videos

Octopath Traveler is split between eight adventures, each following different people on their personal journeys. That being said, you have the option of collecting each party member around the world and essentially completing all of their stories in one playthrough. Pivotal scenes usually occur in certain areas of the game, and they’ll trigger when you enter that location with the party member on your team. If you choose to skip their mission, here’s how to continue their tale in Octopath Traveler.

Whenever you enter a town or area with a main quest, you always have the option of choosing “A Tale For Another Day,” which cancels the mission in Octopath Traveler. That way, you’re free to explore the town as you please without having to stress about being locked in a story mission. However, if you don’t know how to continue the quest, all you need to do is head to the nearest tavern in the town. There, talk to the owner (or tavern keeper), and he’ll bring up the option to “Hear a tale.” All you need to do is select that and choose which character’s tale you’ll want to continue, launching you straight into the story cutscene.

The option to continue a story or tale in Octopath Traveler is incredibly useful when you aren’t prepared for that particular mission. When you open the map, you’ll get a good glimpse of what level you’ll need to be when undertaking a character’s story. If you’re underleveled or just need something from that specific town in Octopath Traveler, you can easily skip the story and come back to it later. Those who want to recruit party members without spoiling their story can also choose this option to skip out on a certain character’s story completely.

That’s the gist of how to continue a tale in Octopath Traveler. If you’re looking for more details and tricks on the game, be sure to check out our wiki.
