How to Get Frigates & What They Do in No Man’s Sky NEXT
The team at Hello Games has been hard at work fleshing out the universe of No Man’s Sky with new content. Off the back of the huge Atlas Rises update last year that added 30-hours of story content and a host of new gameplay features, the latest NEXT patch represents an even bigger overhaul. There is now a multiplayer mode, a third-person perspective, and tweaks to graphical textures. There’s also the ability to not only control frigates but also command an entire fleet from the bridge of your Freighter. Here’s how to get frigates and what they do in No Man’s Sky NEXT.
Frigates are large, powerful ships that are able to be purchased like any other vessel. Frigates can be customized and upgraded with various specializations according to your preference. But perhaps most impressively, you can actually purchase up 50 Frigates and fly around with an entire fleet surrounding your Freighter. More than just looking like a totally bad-ass scene from Battle Star Galactica, there is a purpose to owning your fleet.
Each Frigate can be sent out on procedurally generated missions that play out in real-time across the universe. You can either follow their progress or leave them to complete the mission on their own accord. Once their task is complete, the Frigates will return and drop-off the resources they have gathered.
To purchase additional frigates, when fleets warp into a system, approach them in your ship. Available frigates have green icons, so you’ll just need to fly near them and use your starship radio option to purchase. You should be able to max out your fleet pretty quickly by just warping to different systems and purchasing the available frigates you see.
