When Did Nioh Come Out?
Nioh is a PS4 exclusive developed by Team Ninja (Ninja Gaiden, Dead or Alive, Hyrule Warriors) and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE). It’s an action RPG that has been compared to FromSoftware’s “Souls” series, yet it brings its own fresh take on the sub-genre by mixing in some of the elements of the studio’s previous games. The result is an amazing experience that places players into a feudal japan where history and mythology collide. It’s one of those games that you could swear you’ve been playing for years. But in actuality, Nioh didn’t release all that long ago.
Surprisingly enough, it released in North America prior to any other region. The release date was February 7, 2017. The release of Nioh in PAL regions was Feb. 8, and it finally came out in Japan on Feb. 9. The game came out to some solid praise and currently has an aggregated score of 88 on Metacritic. It was praised for being much more than a simple clone of Dark Souls, use of lore, and engaging combat system.
Some critics weren’t too fond of the grindy nature of Nioh which they felt spoiled the release. It took a lot of work and repetition to get to where you needed to be. But, with the final destination being so worthwhile, it was one complaint that was easily overlooked.
