NieR: Automata – How to Save

Recommended Videos

When you first boot up NieR: Automata, you’ll be greeted with a rather cheeky message telling you that the game doesn’t support auto-save, and that you’ll have to play through the game to find out how to actually save your data. The game isn’t kidding either. There is a checkpoint system, but checkpoints are spread out pretty thinly, so you’ll definitely want to save your game whenever you can.

You can do this by interacting with an access point, and you’ll find the first point after completing the prologue mission. When you interact with this, you have the option to perform a quick save. Automata gives you a total of three save slots, but the quick saves will always overwrite whichever slot you saved in last. If you back out of this menu, you can open up your main menu and perform a proper save from the System tab. You can do this as long as you’re near an access point, and the game will indicate that to you with a ‘Saving Possible’ message in the top right corner of your screen. As long as you see that message, you’re all set.
