NieR: Automata – Opening Locked Chests

Recommended Videos

As you explore the ruined planet of Earth in NieR: Automata, you’ll stumble across a lot of large chests that look like they have tons of goodies hiding inside them. However, they’re all secured with some sort of electronic lock, and if you interact with them, 2B will say that she can’t access them at the moment.

Don’t bother with these chests on your first playthrough of the game. These chests can only be unlocked during your second playthrough as you make your way towards Ending B. The second playthrough of the game will grant you a hacking ability which lets you press and hold the triangle button to initiate a hack attempt on the chest. Doing this will start a bullet hell mini game where you simply have to destroy the central black orb without taking too many hits. Do note that failing the hack by getting too many hits or running out of time will cause your character to take a little bit of damage as well. I recommend having a health regen chip installed if you don’t want to waste recovery items.
