NieR: Automata – Emil Superboss Fight

Recommended Videos

So you’ve cleared NieR: Automata and you think you’ve seen all the game has to offer? Wrong. Pit yourself against Emil, the NieR OG, and see how you fare against this optional superboss. Before you can start the fight, you have to complete his side quest titled “Emil’s Memories.” This side quest involves you finding four Lunar Tears around the world, and we have a separate guide detailing how to go about doing that.

Once you complete the quest and gain access to the elevator in the commercial district, talk to him to finish off the quest.

Next, you’ll need to find out where Emil actually lives. Go to the access point at the city’s cave ruins and climb up the ladder from there. If you look to your left and above you, you’ll find a white pipe that you can jump into. Go to the top of the ruins and jump down to get inside the pipe. Take the elevator down, and follow the path all the way to the end until you reach a drop. Jump down, but remember to use the Pod to soften your landing at the very bottom. Follow the path and you’ll eventually reach Emil’s home. Take the mask from the shack, then leave the area.

You’ll have to find Emil around the world map again and talk to him. He’ll tell you that he recently had bandits breaking into his home. Go back to his shack again, and this time you’ll find a locked chest. Hack it to get the Emil Head. Try to leave the area, and Emil will stop you for a fight.

Emil is a level 99 boss, and he’ll fire non-stop Emil head bullets at you, so you’ll want to make sure that your dodging game is on point. I recommend attempting this fight at around level 65 or so, and bring your best HP chips as well.

Emil does have another superboss fight available, but this can only be unlocked after you’ve acquired all weapons and upgraded them fully. After you’ve done so, talk to him at the commercial district to trigger the quest.
