New World is a new and ambitious pirate-themed MMORPG from Amazon Games, and it’s just been released for PC today. Players will now be able to explore the world of Aeturnum, join a faction, and even run the risk of getting attacked by other players from opposing factions. That all sounds fun, but if you don’t want to get caught in the crossfire, you can opt out of it too. Here’s how to enable PvP and turn it off in New World.
Enabling PvP in New World
First off, you don’t have to worry about PvP at all in the early hours of the game. Just keep progressing through the main quest and story naturally, and you’ll eventually reach the first settlement and be asked to choose from one of the three factions. After choosing a faction and completing the initiation quest, you’ll then officially be part of that faction and you’ll have the ability to toggle PvP on and off.
To do this, simply press the U key, and a prompt will come up onscreen to let you know that it has been enabled. To turn it off, press the U key again and the prompt will say that it’s been disabled.
Do be warned that if you leave it on, you can be attacked by players from other factions when you’re exploring the world, which can cause you to lose progress. So if you’re in the middle of something important, it’s best to leave it off and only toggle it on when you’re actively looking for some PvP action.
Defeating other players will help to strengthen your faction, and this will give you various benefits like lower tax rates, an easier time claiming territory, and so on and so forth. You don’t have to engage in this aspect of the game at all, though, and you can go through the entire quest without ever battling another player.
