The mounted knight was among the most feared troop types on the medieval battlefield for his ability to run through enemies with lance in hand. In Mount & Blade 2 Bannerlord, you can use the same “couch lancing” technique to devastating effect, but it works slightly differently from Warband. Here’s how to couch lance in Mount & Blade 2 Bannerlord.
What Couch Lancing Is
Before we explain how to use the attack, let’s quickly clarify what exactly couch lancing is. As alluded to above, this technique is done by essentially using the momentum of a horse to increase the penetration of a lance. Smashing into an enemy line with enough speeds generates the necessary power to smash through plate armor with piercing damage much higher than if you were to just thrust normally.
How to Couch Lance in Mount & Blade 2 Bannerlord
First, unlike Warband, only certain lances are capable of this specific attack type. We’ll list those weapons below, but it’s worth pointing out that the attack type is actually listed on each lance in the inventory, as you can see in the below image.
To couch lance, you must first get your horse up to speed, then press “X” once you’re going fast enough. The amount of time this takes really depends on what type of horse you’re riding, but obviously the faster it is the shorter run-up you’ll require.
You’ll know you are in the correct stance when your hero lifts their lance-head and tucks the handle between their arm and chest. Check the picture below as a reference.
Time needed: 2 minutes
Here’s a quick step-by-step breakdown for the tl;dr crowd:
- Make sure you have a suitable weapon equipped (see below list).
- Charge at the enemy on horseback until you have gathered sufficient speed.
- Press “X” to initiate the stance.
All Couch Lance Weapons
There are only several couch lancing weapons in Mount & Blade 2 and they are fairly expensive. Here’s a full list:
- Double-Sided Lance
