Because releasing just one Monster Hunter game in 2021 wasn’t quite enough, Capcom’s releasing a second Monster Hunter game for the Switch this month as well. Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin is a big departure from the mainline series, though, as this is a turn-based JRPG that even allows you to recruit monsters and fight alongside them against bigger, tougher beasts. Here’s how to add Monsties to your party in Monster Hunter Stories 2.
Yes, you will be fighting monsters in this game and breaking their parts to craft weapons and equipment. And yes, you can also recruit them to your party, and they’ll even fight alongside you, and that’s what makes this game a proper JRPG as you’ll have party members to swap in and out.
Adding Monsties to Your Party in Monster Hunter Stories 2
First off, to get Monsties, you need to hatch them from eggs. We’ve got a guide here on how to get and hatch eggs, but just to give you a brief idea of how to do it: you can get eggs by exploring monster nests scattered around the open-world. They’re essentially little caves that you can enter as you explore, and there’s usually a nest found at the end of the path. You can either choose to fight the monster, or steal an egg and leave before it wakes up.
Once you have an egg, head back to the village and talk to the Stable Paw to hand over your eggs. You can hatch them all at once, giving you a few new Monsties to choose from. From the Stable Paw menu, choose the option that says Manage Monsties, and this is where you’ll be able to add Monsties to your party.
You can have up to five Monsties in your party at any given time, so make your selection and try to form your party with a good variety of Monsties with different skills you can make use of.
Once you’ve done that, you’re pretty much good to go. Whenever you’re in combat, only your lead Monstie will fight beside you, but you can change that in the middle of the fight by choosing the Monstie option in the battle menu.
When you’re outside of battle, press the X button to bring up your main menu, and choose the Lead Monstie option to swap it out. Monsties come with various different skills that can help you access different parts of the map and even scavenge for new items, so grab as many eggs as you can when you come by a nest.
That’s all you need to know about how to add Monsties to your party in Monster Hunter Stories 2. Be sure to search for Twinfinite for more tips and information on the game.
