Getting Thunderbugs in Monster Hunter Rise

Thunderbugs are one of the key resources required to craft a Shock Trap in Monster Hunter Rise, and you can never have too many of those. All you need is a Thunderbug and a Trap Tool, which can be bought from the merchant and the guild store, and you’ll be able to craft some traps for yourself.

Unlike the Pitfall Trap, which requires the monster to step into it in order to get trapped, the Shock Trap also works on flying enemies. However, it’s effective for a shorter period of time, so you’ll need to be quick with those Tranq Bombs.

To get Thunderbugs, you’ll need to check the trees for them whenever you’re out exploring a level. In the Shrine Ruins, for instance, you can usually find Thunderbugs hanging out on tree barks when you head up to the higher points in that level.

However, there’s actually a much easier way to farm Thunderbugs in Monster Hunter Rise. After completing your first few 1-star Village quests, the Buddy Plaza will become fully open to you, and you can access Argosy expeditions by talking to the NPC near the ship.

You just need to have one available Buddy, and then send that Buddy out on an Argosy expedition with a submarine. When sending them out, you can choose a type of item you want to bring back. Your options include things like Honey, Herbs, and so on and so forth. You can also choose Thunderbugs, and after a few quests, your Buddy will return from the expedition with tons of Thunderbugs for you.

This way, you’ll never run low on them, and you can keep crafting Shock Traps reliably.

That’s all you need to know about how to get Thunderbugs in Monster Hunter Rise. Be sure to check our guide wiki for more tips and information on the game.
