Ahead of the game’s full release on the Nintendo Switch on March 26, Capcom has just dropped a Monster Hunter Rise Demo that you can download for free from the Nintendo eShop. At the time of writing, however, it’s not clearly listed as a ‘Featured Title’ on the eShop’s main page, so instead you’ll have to do a bit of digging to get there, but we’ll talk you through the process.

How to Download Monster Hunter Rise Demo on Nintendo Switch

  1. Open the Nintendo eShop on Your Nintendo Switch

This is done by selecting the orange shopping bag at the bottom of your home screen.

  2. Select the ‘Search’ option from the left sidebar

This will then allow you to search for different search terms or game titles.

  3. Type ‘Monster Hunter’ in the search bar

Once you’ve done this, press + on your right Joy-Con to search the eShop.

  4. Select ‘Monster Hunter Rise’ from the search results.

Do not select the ‘Deluxe Edition’ version of the game. Simply select the standard version.

  5. Select ‘Download Demo’ just below the ‘Proceed to Pre-Order’ option.

This will commence the download on your Nintendo Switch home screen. You can check the progress from the download bar.

Once the download has finished, you’ll be able to press A on the Monster Hunter Rise Demo from your home screen and enjoy what’s on offer.

What’s Included in the Demo?

The demo will allow players to complete the ‘Basic Training Quest’ which acts as a tutorial for the basics of your monster hunting antics, such as the Wire Bug (think Grapple Gun) and a Wyvern Riding Training Quest. Wyvern Riding will see players latch onto the back of these huge monsters, controlling their movements and allowing you to turn them against other creatures in-battle to help you on your quest.

Once you’ve got the tutorials out of the way, players can check out a Beginner Quest which will see you taking down a Great Izuchi, as well as an Intermediate Quest to take down the iconic Mizutsune from Monster Hunter Generations. Both of these quests can be played in solo and co-op, and will take place on the Shrine Ruins map. All 14 weapons available in the full game will also be available to try in the demo.

How Long Is the Monster Hunter Rise Demo Available For?

Capcom has confirmed that the demo is only available until midnight PST on Feb. 1 on the Nintendo eShop before it will be removed, so be sure to nab it before then.
