Modern Warfare: How to Play Free-for-All

modern warfare free-for-all

If there’s a staple game mode that you’ll find in almost every first-person shooter (FPS), it’s Free-for-All. This Deathmatch modes essentially drops players onto a map and leaves them to kill each other until one player is declared the champ of all things murderous and whatnot. With the release of Call of Duty’s latest title, some players may be wondering how to play Free-for-All in Modern Warfare. Well, here’s what you need to know.

Playing Free-for-All in Modern Warfare

Update 30/10/19: Infinity Ward has released a patch since the time of publishing this post that has now added Free-for-All as a playlist option. This can be selected by choosing the ‘Filter’ option next to ‘Quick Match’ and selecting it from the list of modes.

Okay, so let’s get one thing out of the way immediately. At the time of writing (Oct. 25), Free-for-All is not a game mode that you can play in public games. Instead, it seems to only be available when playing a Private Match with friends.

To do this, select the ‘Multiplayer’ option from the main menu and then select ‘Private Match’ from the bottom of the menu. Choose the ‘Custom Game’ option, and then ‘Game Setup.’ Now select ‘Mode’ and you’ll find the Free-for-All option available third from the bottom.

Will Free-for-All Be Available in Public Matches?

Right now, it kind of seems a little unclear. The community over on Reddit seems to be a little confused about Free-for-All’s absence. Some believe it may get released as a public game mode once the servers have settled down, just like Infinity Ward is releasing Ground War later this evening in the hopes that it won’t cause massive server crashes.

Currently, neither Infinity Ward or Activision have yet to comment on what exactly is going on with Free-for-All in Modern Warfare, but considering it is there as an option in private matches, we’d be very surprised if it never came to the public playlist.

As soon as we hear anything more on the availability of the game mode, we’ll be sure to update this post and keep you in the loop.
