Why not get prepared for the Halloween season early, and start carving some pumpkins in Minecraft? They can be all kinds of useful, and are in fact the vital ingredient to iron golem crafting! That and…sentient snowmen, but that’s a guide for another day. Let’s stay focused here: here’s how to carve a pumpkin in Minecraft.
You can carve pumpkins using a pair of shears. These can be crafted using two iron ingots in a 3×3 crafting grid. Shears will come in handy for a variety of tasks during survival gameplay, so they’re good to have even if you’re not flooding your house with jack’o’lanterns any time soon.
Once you have your shears ready, you’re gonna need a pumpkin. These can be found growing naturally in various biomes, or in small villages amongst farmer’s crops.
You also have a chance at snagging some from the local tradesmen, but when you can find a pumpkin for free in the open world, suddenly forking over emeralds seems like heresy.
If you want to grow your own pumpkin instead, this can be done pretty easily. You can only plant them on farmland, so get your hoe ready.
Make sure you have at least one block of farmland adjacent to where you plant your pumpkin so that the growing stem can produce a pumpkin. If you forget to do this, the pumpkin does not have the space to grow.
To carve the pumpkin, put it out in front of you, and select your shears. Next, just tap on the pumpkin to carve a spooky face into its flesh. You’re all set!
Your newly carved pumpkin can be used to create golems to buff up your defense, or as a quirky decoration for your base.
