How to Get Gold & What it’s Used for in Middle-earth: Shadow of War

Recommended Videos

One of the big talking points surrounding Middle-earth: Shadow of War is its microtransactions. Though you don’t ever need to actually make use of them, they can help to make things a little bit easier for you as you go in Shadow of War. These microtransactions come in the form of the game’s Gold currency that allows you to purchase some rare chests that contain powerful Orcs and other items such as Training Orders, Gear, or other Boosts for Talion.

While Gold can be earned in-game, it’ll come very slowly, so you’re better off just focusing on Mirian instead. To get Gold in Shadow of War, you’ll need to head to your platform’s respective online store and purchase it with real money. Gold comes in the following denominations:

  • 500 – $4.99
  • 1000 (+50 Bonus) – $9.99
  • 2000 (+200 Bonus) – $19.99
  • 5000 (+ 750 Bonus) – $49.99
  • 10000 (+2000 Bonus) – $99.99

If you want to avoid microtransactions, you can earn this currency through in-game progress in Shadow of War. To do so, you’ll want to focus on completing Challenges which can be found in your Quests menu once you’ve unlocked them. Challenges change by day but are never overly difficulty, so they can be an easy way to earn Gold. Just be warned, however, that the amount given as a reward for these is always very small.
