Metro Exodus‘ move away from the linear tunnels of Moscow, giving you large open spaces to explore, has brought with it many more dangers to keep an eye on. If you’re struggling with the enemies you’re coming across, here’s everything you need to know about how to change difficulty in Metro Exodus.

The game can be challenging due to its emphasis on survival. You’ll often be low on ammo, you may have run out of medkits, and all you’ll be able to do is melee mutants to death. Doing that too often will soon see you die, however.

Also, since weapons get dirty over time, losing their damage output, and some weapons ask you to pump their pressure up before every clip of bullets, you might find it hard to do much damage to some of the enemies, especially if you do not hit them in the head.

If you want to change difficulty in Metro Exodus, so that you can take a little more damage and dish some more out as you go, you first need to press the Options button (menu if you are on Xbox One) to pause the game.

Then, you need to select Options on that menu, then scroll down to Difficulty, where you’re able to cycle between all of the difficulty options in Metro Exodus.

The options you have are Easy, Normal, Hardcore, and Reader. Choosing anything other than Normal or Easy will see you be given quite a challenge, especially if you do not avoid enemies with stealth when that’s possible.
