Mass Effect 1: How to Repair Mako

Mass Effect How to Repair Mako

The Mako is likely to be the cause of many headaches you’ll have in the first Mass Effect title. It handles like a vehicle perpetually driving on ice, and trying to get it over mountains will frequently see you get caught in craters or crevices. Worst of all, though, is that it can be torn apart surprisingly easy in combat, meaning you’ll be faced with constant game overs unless you know how to repair the Mako in Mass Effect.

How to Repair the Mako in Mass Effect 1

Patching up the Mako in the first Mass Effect is pretty easy, but it does come with some requirements and drawbacks.

For starters, you need to be inside the vehicle to initiate repairs. There’s no way to fix the Mako while outside of it, and while it will repair itself with enough time away from it, you aren’t likely to find yourself in a situation where it’s safe to leave the Mako during combat.

Once inside the Mako, you’ll then need to press the Triangle Button on PlayStation consoles or the Y Button on Xbox consoles. This’ll initiate repairs on the vehicle in exchange for 15 Omni-gel, the material you can gain from defeated enemies or dismantled gear.

The repair process takes a few seconds to finish, and its progress will be denoted by some bars to the right of the Mako’s health and shield readings. You’ll still be able to drive around during this time, but your weapons will be inoperable until the repairs are complete.

When You Should Repair the Mako

With all this in mind, there are better situations than others for repairing the Mako in Mass Effect.

If you’re in a situation where you’re under heavy fire, and the enemy is bearing down on you relentlessly, then you’ll need to be selective about when you initiate repairs. Only do so if you can successfully avoid their attacks, and if you can go without laying down suppressive blasts for a bit.

Likewise, make sure you have enough Omni-gel to make the repairs worth it. If you don’t, you could be left without enough to initiate repairs later, or carry out other functions Omni-gel is needed for like quick-hacking.
