Throughout Mass Effect 1, you’ll get plenty of assignments that require Shepard to investigate smaller situations that take place outside of the main story. Once such side story revolves around a UNC soldier that goes by the name of Major Kyle. Despite having the assignment in your objectives list, this character can be a little difficult to find. Strange Transmission
You’ll be able to acquire this mission in a number of different ways in Mass Effect 1. You can either hack a console in the diplomat’s office in the Citadel Embassies, find the server node next to the ExoGeni VI on Fero or at the Peak 15 Helium-3 reactor on Noveria, or simply head to the Century system in the Hawking Eta Cluster.
Regardless of how you’re assigned the mission, you’ll eventually head to the Century system and will be assigned the mission Strange Transmission. Follow the instructions and head to Presrop.
Where Major Kyle Is in Mass Effect 1
Once on Presrop, head toward the two buildings in front of you. One of the buildings will be inaccessible at the moment, so head into the other one and attempt to open the door to start a conversation with a soldier.
You can avoid a firefight by asking about the man in charge, but it’ll require you to have a Charm level of 3 (Paragon) or an Intimidate level of 5 (Renegade). Alternatively, anyone that has the Ruthless Psychological Profile can also get by, as it opens up the dialogue option of “I served with him at Torfan.”
Either way, you’ll be pointed toward the other building, which is now unlocked. This building leads to the underground facility where you can find Major Kyle.
Once you find Major Kyle, you can reach a conclusion via a Charm (Requires Level 7) or Intimidate (Requires Level 10) check, or by engaging in a firefight. If you pass the check without initiating a fight, he will meet you at the gates of his complex without a further conflict.
