Is Marvel’s Avengers Game Open World? Answered

No, Marvel’s Avengers doesn’t feature a true open world sandbox as you’d find in other live service games like The Division and Ghost Recon: Breakpoint.

Where in those games you have a large, continuous area in which any location can be ventured to from any moment in the game, Avengers instead loads you into entirely different locations from an operations room. This is the case both during the campaign and when playing its multiplayer Initiative Mode.

Of course, just as in many other AAA games these days, there are certainly wide open sections of the game that are like mini sandboxes. There are moments that definitely mimic open world level design and provide that same feeling of space and size.

However, you certainly won’t be exploring huge environments like, say, Manhattan in Marvel’s Spider-Man. The few city locations there are in the game are much smaller.

A good comparison to the overall level design of the game would be something like Destiny, where you basically launch into challenges and missions from a command center. Some of these are pretty linear stages, while others are more open sandboxes.

That should be everything you need to know about whether Marvel’s Avengers is open world. For more useful tips and information on the game, be sure to check out Twinfinite’s extensive guide wiki.
