To decipher patterns at the Fabrication Machine in Marvel’s Avengers, you’ll need to have reached a certain point in the game; specifically, the point where you find and recruit Tony Stark, otherwise known as Ironman, to your cause.

This occurs fairly early on in the game, as Tony Stark is one of the first few members of the Avengers you’ll track down. Once it happens, you’ll gain the ability to decipher schematics for new cosmetics and nameplates, known as Patterns, via a new facility on the Chimera known as the Fabrication Machine.

It’s easy to use too. All you need to do is walk up to the Fabrication Machine and hold the Square Button on PlayStation 4 or the X Button on the Xbox One. This will activate the machine, after which you can choose which of the Patterns you currently possess that you want to be deciphered.

A new cosmetic or nameplate will then be produced, after which you can use it as much or as little as you like.

That’s all there is to it really. The Fabrication Machine is a fast and easy way to gain new cosmetic items, and if your fond of such features, it’s well worth keeping in mind as you make your way through the game.
