To really maximize your ball carries you’ll want to learn a few tricks so that you’re not always just relying on a player’s speed. Breaking a tackle can mean the difference between merely gaining a few yards and busting through your opponent’s defense for a touchdown. Here we’ll be teaching you the skills you need to run like a man possessed!

What Breaking a Tackle Means

To break a tackle simply means to avoid being sacked or taken down, to shrug off a defensive tackle from an opposing player so that you’re able to keep running and gain more yards.

There are two different ways to go about this in Madden 20. You can either stiff-arm your opponent, or you can truck them. Basically, either shove them off with your arm or simply power through their tackle and keep on running.

Which Stats are Important

Typically, speed is a hugely important stat in most areas of Madden 20, but not when it comes to breaking tackles. You’re after height, strength, and most importantly, the break tackle stat.

Big players with a break tackle stat of 75 and up are you’re best bet for successfully pulling off this move.

How to Break Tackles in Madden 20

Stiff-Arming

Stiff-arming is all about timing. The trick is to run slightly into the direction of your opponent and then press the stiff-arm button (X on PS4, A on Xbox One, Space/Left Mouse on PC) just before impact. You should not be holding the sprint button while you perform this move.

That said, you can still effectively stiff-arm by just holding the stiff-arm button and turning into your opponent. But our preference is the first option.

Trucking

To truck, again, the key is timing. Just before you’re hit by a defender, use the right stick on your gamepad (W on PC) to power through the tackle. This probably isn’t as effective as stiff-arming, just because it’s less about precision and more about the stats of each player (who is strongest).

That should be everything you need to know about how to break tackles in Madden 20. For more useful tips and guides on the game, be sure to search Twinfinite. We’ve listed some related content below you might find useful, too.
