There are few things more satisfying in Madden games than bringing down an interception. Double that satisfaction if it was a user pick! However, they feel so good for a reason: they can be hard to pull off.
If you liked the revamps to defense last year, then you’ll like the system in Madden 17 because it’s the same. There are a number of different ways to play a WR while controlling a defender. When the ball is in the air you can, play the ball, play the receiver, or play to swat the ball. To give yourself the best possible chance to intercept the ball in Madden 17, you’ll want to play the ball by holding Triangle/Y when the ball is in the air. However, keep in mind that playing the ball is the riskiest. There’s a chance that the defensive back will completely miss, and leave an easy lane for the WR to catch the ball and run off.
In addition to playing the ball, it’s worth noting that if you want to get more interceptions online, you should try practicing controlling the defensive backs. A lot of Madden novices don’t put a lot of thought into the defensive plays, and control linemen instead. The best players though will often play as either a LB, S, or CB to try and pick off balls and lock down offensive threats. Consider using the revamped zone plays and try to stick to an area, getting out in front of anyone that enters your zone. When you’re controlling the defender yourself, it’s a lot easier to get out of front and intercept the ball than relying on the AI.
