Lost Judgment continues to bring the blend of detective and combat gameplay that the first game — and spin-off of the Yakuza series — managed to get so darn right. While you’ll be spending a lot of your time sleuthing around the streets of Isezaki Ijincho, sometimes you’re going to have to use your fists to resolve a few conflicts as Yagami. In this guide, we’ll talk you through how to quickstep and evade incoming attacks to keep your health bar intact in Lost Judgment.
Quickstepping allows you to gracefully evade your enemy’s attacks, as they’ll throw a punch and often follow through, stumbling towards you. As such, you’ll want to use it whenever you’re in combat to help minimize the amount of damage you’re taking.
Quickstepping & Evading in Lost Judgment
To quickstep, make sure you’re holding down R1 to maintain a fighting stance. While doing this, wait for an enemy to attack and press X while pointing the left analog stick in the direction you want to quickstep.
Timing with this is key, as you can perfectly evade the attack if you get the timing just right. This will result in you pulling off a ‘perfect evade’ which opens their defense to your attacks, more often than not putting you directly behind them.
This then allows you to land a few easy attacks on your opponent before they can recover their guard.
Improving Guard
It’s possible to also improve your guard ability in Lost Judgment. Each style has various skills and abilities that will improve Yagami’s guard.
The Tiger stance has Re-Guard, Guard Roll, and Perfect Guard, while Crane has Projectile Counter and Projectile Counter Blue Flame. Finally, Snake has Overwhelming Parry and Threatening Parry. As you rely on your guard quite heavily in combat, we highly recommend purchasing these as soon as possible, especially if you’re struggling to survive fights.
