Tango Gameworks and Bethesda Softworks’ first-person action-horror experience, Ghostwire: Tokyo, released recently on PS5 and PC to a pretty positive critical reception. In fact, our very own Andrew McMahon was super impressed in his 4.5/5 review, concluding: “[Ghostwire: Tokyo] is a must-play for anyone who loves action-adventure, even with some less than inventive design choices for its structure.” But what if you’re still rocking a PS4 and haven’t had a chance to get your mitts on Sony’s shiny next-gen system? In this guide, we’ll answer the question: Is Ghostwire: Tokyo coming to PS4? So, without further ado, let’s get into it.
Is Ghostwire: Tokyo Coming to PS4?
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it looks like Ghostwire: Tokyo will not be coming to PS4. Don’t shoot the messenger!
When Bethesda announced the game at E3 back in 2019, it was confirmed to be a PC and PS5 release. In fact, the Japanese studio described the game as a “PS5 console exclusive,” which implies that it will launch solely on that one console.
Since then – and following the publisher’s acquisition by Microsoft – we’ve learned that the title will be a timed PS5 exclusive, meaning that at some point in the future, the game will likely launch on Xbox systems.
However, much like Deathloop – which was also a Bethesda-published PS5 console exclusive – there is currently no indication that it will ever make its way to Sony’s last-gen system.
Why Is Ghostwire: Tokyo Not Coming to PS4?
It’s likely that a next-gen game like Ghostwire: Tokyo would struggle to run on last-gen hardware like the PS4. Ultimately, the game was developed with the PS5’s architecture in mind, so porting it to the PS4 may prove challenging to the development team.
Of course, that doesn’t mean that a PS4 version of the game is completely off the table. If we hear any new details regarding a PS4 release for Ghostwire: Tokyo, we’ll make sure to update this post.
