Dark Souls III: How to Use the Torch

Guide to using the torch in Dark Souls III.

Unlike Dark Souls II, the torch in Dark Souls III is far less important. Now, you no longer have to worry about how much time your torch has left, nor do you have to worry about ever running out of torches. Once you get one – you’re good.

Finding the Torch

The torch can be purchased from the Shrine Maiden at the Firelink Shrine hub for 300 souls. To find the Shrine Handmaiden, walk past the bonfire at the center of the Firelink Shrine and into a long hallway. She can be found sitting on a chair against the right wall, just before reaching Andre the Blacksmith. You can’t miss her.

Using the Torch

The torch occupies a free hand. Therefore, it should be used with caution. Guarding with the torch will cause the player to hold the torch up and produce more light than usual, making it an excellent maneuver for navigating treacherous dark areas.
