During The Game Awards last week, Nintendo announced that Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII would be joining the already-massive roster of fighters in Smash Ultimate. The first thing that you want to make sure is that your game is updated to the latest version, which happens to be Ver. 10.0.0. If you don’t have it, just hit the + button on the main menu of your Switch to bring up a screen and then hit software update, and then Via the Internet to download.

Now that you have the latest update, open up the game, and on the main menu, you should now see a small bar on the top left corner that says ‘Sephiroth Challenge.’ Open that up with + and you’ll have the opportunity to challenge Sephiroth to a fight.

This challenge is only available for a limited time until Dec. 22 and it lets you choose between three difficulty modes. It doesn’t matter which one you choose; as long as you beat him, you’ll unlock him.

It’s worth noting that this mode is only available for those who have already purchased the Fighters Pass Vol. 2 or if you bought Sephiroth’s DLC on its own, which can be purchased from the eShop.

The character’s actual release date is on the 22nd, but this is a way for fans to get him in the game a little bit early. You can always just wait until Dec. 22 if you can’t beat him or if you’re scared to face him –it’s okay, he is a bit creepy.

And that’s all you need to know about how to unlock Sephiroth in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Keep checking back here at Twinfinite for our early impressions of the latest DLC fighter.
