It’s a fun concept but it may be a difficult game to grasp if you cannot distinguish the colors from each other. Locking Colors in Splatoon 3

It’s only natural that ink get splattered all over the place in Splatoon 3. Sometimes, those colors will be a bit too difficult to distinguish between each other. Here is the step-by-step process to lock colors in and have an easier time playing the game:

  1. Enter the Menu

    Press X on your controller to open the menu.

  2. Navigate to Options

    Use the L or R buttons to switch to the “Options” menu.

  3. Scroll to Other

    Press down on the Control Stick or D-Pad to go to the “Other” section

  4. Select Color Lock On

    Press A to switch Color Lock to the On position. This will lock the ink colors when playing online.

Splatoon 3 is primarily a player vs player game so you can expect to spend a lot of time in Turf War or Anarchy Battle. Anarchy Battles can get especially competitive when playing so it’s important that you can see the action that is happening on screen. By locking the colors, you should be able to avoid difficulties playing the game that could be caused by color blindness.

Unfortunately, the biggest drawback to this feature is that it only locks the colors in online multiplayer modes like Turf War and Anarchy Battle. The single-player mode will not feature locked colors of ink so you will have to play that with the base colors.

One major improvement from Splatoon 2 is that the game now locks colors in Salmon Run. That’s right, Splatoon 3 will lock the colors and let players get a better look at the enemy salmonid paths through the stages in that mode.
