Look Out for the Blue Cloth
One of the first things you learn in Homefront: The Revolution is that following the blue scraps of cloth will always lead you to good supplies. You do have a jump button in the game, but this won’t let you climb or jump to ledges that are too high for you. However, if you see a platform covered with a blue cloth, or marked with the blue resistance symbol, you’ll be able to get to them.
Simply head to the blue covered platform, tap the jump button, and Brady will climb onto it automatically. It’s a good idea to keep a look out for these platforms, as they’ll usually lead you into buildings containing supplies that you can use to craft items and equipment. If you’re looking for a way into a building, it’s also a good idea to circle around and see if there are any of these blue platforms you can access. If the door to the building is locked shut, chances are you’ll have to climb your way in through a window.
Always Craft Items
This isn’t very relevant until you’ve gotten a few hours into Homefront: The Revolution. Whenever you’re in a building, keep a look out for shiny, silver items just laying around. If you move close to them, you should receive a button prompt that allows you to scavenge materials and other worthwhile items.
Not only that, you can also interact with the furniture around you. For instance, tapping the interact button next to a couch will allow you to search the cushions, while interacting with cabinets will allow you to open the drawers and check them. Brady isn’t a very tanky character, so looting these areas is always worthwhile, as you never know when you’ll chance upon a health kit.
Once you’ve gathered enough materials, be sure to check your weapon wheel and see if there are any items you can craft on the spot. Molotov cocktails are particularly useful in the early hours of the game, so be sure to craft those whenever you can. There’s no sense in trying to hoard all of your materials.
Look Out for Vehicles
When you’re roaming about in the world of Homefront: The Revolution, remember that you can ride vehicles to travel faster. Motorcycles will show up on your minimap whenever you’re near them, and you can tap the interact button to get onto the bike. This will make traveling around Philadelphia a lot faster than on foot.
Do take note that the bikes can be a bit unwieldy at times, and traveling in a vehicle will usually attract unwanted attention from the KPA. If you’re going to ride a bike, try to avoid running into enemy patrols. Remember that you can also drive up ramps and other shortcuts while on a vehicle – this will allow you to get to your destination a lot quicker, and also reduce the chances of you getting spotted by enemy forces.
Check Your Phone Regularly
This is especially important during the early hours of the game. As you meet new characters, they’ll occasionally send you text messages, which you can view on your all-purpose smartphone. These messages will give you tips regarding side missions and operations, more information on characters you’re working with, as well as a hint about what to do next if you ever find yourself stuck.
In addition to that, the smartphone also houses all of your collected intel and journal entries. This is where you can glean most of the background information and story present in Homefront: The Revolution. The smartphone also gives you access to your map, and this is where you can look out for side-ops, and also get a view of the district you’re currently in.
Check Back With the Gunsmith
As you progress through the game, you’ll earn more money, pick up more materials, and get crafting parts to customize your weapons. Whenever you’re back at the resistance hideout, be sure to check with the local gun vendor for any new customization parts you might be interested in.
Early on in the game, you’ll get a crafting part that allows you to dismantle your gun and swap between a pistol and submachine gun. Remember that you can customize your primary weapon even further by adding new iron sights, grips, and other components that will make your shooting experience a lot easier.
