How to Parry and Counter Attack in Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice
Like most games from Ninja Theory (Heavenly Sword, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, DmC: Devil May Cry), Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice has a large focus on tight, combo-centric combat. Of course, this often means that enemies will have a bit of prowess of their own, putting players in tight spots as they try to kill Senua. Thankfully, there are some abilities that will help give you an edge when the going gets rough. One of those abilities comes in the form of a parry and counter attack, which sees Senua put an opponent off balance, opening them up for an attack.
To block attacks, you simply hold R1, but if you tap R1 right before an enemy attack connects, you will parry it instead. This will knock the monster off balance and can even work against boss encounters so it’s definitely worth practicing. Once parried, you can then take advantage and deliver an attack that will do a bit more damage due to their stat. This is called a counter attack and you should make it part of your regular approach, especially for stronger foes.
That’s all there is to it. With a bit of time and practice, you’ll be parrying and countering enemies in Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice like a pro. For more on this game, be sure to check out our wiki.
