Ghost of Tsushima’s beautiful sandbox is chock full of interesting things to discover, but finding them isn’t quite as straight forward as it is in open-world games. Indeed, because there’s no waypoint system, mini-map, or compass on the HUD, you’re going to have to keep your eyes peeled for clues as to where its various secrets are hidden. Here’s what the yellow bird means in Ghost of Tsushima.
What the Yellow Bird Means in Ghost of Tsushima
The yellow birds in Ghost of Tsushima will only appear when you’re near an undiscovered location. If you spot one, follow it and it will lead you to places like Haiku spots, Hot Springs, Bamboo Cuts, Fox Dens, and other distractions.
There is actually an NPC in the game who explains this to you. He’s atop a tall tower on Tsushima’s southern island.
Put simply, the yellow birds are basically a waypoint system to help you navigate to areas you’d otherwise have a big yellow arrow on your compass or mini-map guiding you toward in other games. The same is true of the game’s foxes; you can read our dedicated guide to Fox Dens and finding hidden shrines here.
The way Ghost of Tsushima uses nature in this clever way is just one of the reasons why we were so impressed with Sucker Punch Productions’ commitment to finding solutions for open-world tropes that have long plagued the genre. You can read more about that in our review.
That does it for what the yellow birds are in Ghost of Tsushima. For more useful tips and guides on the game, do check out our extensive guide wiki.
