Ghost of Tsushima: How to Change Difficulty

How to change difficulty in ghost of tsushima

If you’ve watched any of the Ghost of Tsushima gameplay, you may have had concerns over the difficulty. Some players felt the combat looked too easy in demos that have been shown, while others are worried it could be far too punishing for them to enjoy. Fortunately, you can change difficulty settings in Ghost of Tsushima to fine-tune the experience for your enjoyment, and in this guide we’ll tell you how.

First, it’s worth noting that there are three difficulty levels to choose from initially in Ghost of Tsushima. These are:

  • Easy
  • Normal
  • Hard

On Hard, the game is fair but very challenging. Mongols are more aggressive, and players must be incredibly precise and quick to react in order to pull off crazy combos or badass slashes and parries with their katana.

Meanwhile, on easy, the combat is a lot less punishing and players will find they’ll be able to breeze through conflicts a lot more often. However, the developer suggests you could still be ‘tested by a worthy opponent’ while playing on easy.

What doesn’t change between Ghost of Tsushima’s difficulty settings is the amount of health of your enemies. Whether you’re playing on easy or hard, this will always remain the same in order to ‘maintain the lethality of the katana.’ Combat is very skill-focused, and it’s this that the difficulty will challenge you on, rather than your endurance at slashing away at the same enemy.

Changing Difficulty in Ghost of Tsushima

At the very beginning of your adventure, you’ll be given the option to choose from the three difficulty options listed above.

If you want to change difficulty in Ghost of Tsushima you can do so at any time by pressing the Options button on your controller, and then going to Options. Now select Gameplay and then ‘Difficulty.’

Select this and use left and right on the d-pad or analog stick to change the difficulty.

There aren’t any difficulty trophies in the game either, so you don’t have to worry about missing out by playing on a lower level.

That’s everything you need to know about changing difficulty in Ghost of Tsushima. For more tips, tricks, and guides, be sure to check out our ever-expanding guide wiki, or browse through more of our coverage below.
