Darkrai is one of the most powerful and feared Pokemon in the series history; certainly at least among the strongest pure Dark-types out there. Dark is in its name after all.

Fortunately, getting Darkrai isn’t nearly as difficult to get as Arceus, which also has an event active and has a fairly lengthy list of requirements to get it. Darkrai is all about timing.

To get Darkrai in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, you need to have first entered the Hall of Fame (AKA beat the Elite Four and Champion) and then receive the National Dex. After you’ve checked those boxes, open up Mystery Gift between the dates of April 1 and April 30 (or as Nintendo put it, between the new moons), and you’ll receive the Member Card. The Member Card is the Key Item you’ll need to encounter Darkrai.

With the Member Card, head to the Locked Inn at Canalave City and you’ll end up at Newmoon Island where you can go ahead and do battle with Darkrai in an attempt to catch it. Save the game beforehand just in case things don’t go your way!

If you’re having trouble, remember that Fairy and Fighting Pokemon are effective at dealing with powerful Dark attacks, taking 50% less damage.

That’s all you need to know for how to get Darkrai in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. For more tips, tricks and FAQs answered, check out our BDSP wiki guide.
