Interestingly enough, he stumbles across a note written to himself about how he deliberately erased his own memory along with orders to descend the castle. Along the way, Daniel stumbles across deformed creatures who chase him. You have no means of fighting back and are forced into hiding.
Amnesia: The Dark Descent adds a sanity meter that decreases whenever Daniel looks at the monsters for too long or when hiding in the dark. Upon reaching a certain point, players will begin to see and hear hallucinations.
It’s a unique and believable twist for a horror game, especially considering how most protagonists don’t even bat an eye when they see horrific monsters. While it doesn’t have the same combat as Resident Evil 7, they both have the same lingering dread and do emphasis on psychological aspects of horror.

The Evil Within is another survival horror game that delves deep into nightmares. The game’s protagonist, Sebastian, gets pulled into a distorted world filled with horrific creatures and distorted memories.
Together with his partners, the three of them must navigate through the bizarre ordeal and learn the truth of their ongoing investigation. Players are armed with a variety of different weapons, although resources are scarce.
The Evil Within shared the same unsettling vibes with Resident Evil 7, with both games relying on atmospheric horror to scare players. It’s also worth noting that this game was created by Shinji Mikami, one of the pioneers of the Resident Evil series.

Moreover, you will also have to use your camera to see through dark areas. You can collect your batteries to keep your camcorder topped up, but there’s nothing else you can really do otherwise.
Outlast is just as gory as Resident Evil 7, featuring some pretty gnarly scenes during your time in the asylum. Outlast also makes use of jump scares to catch you off guard or alert you if there are any nearby enemies. Despite some of its cheap scare tactics, Outlast and its sequel is still a great option for Resident Evil 7 fans.

Silent Hill is turning 20 this year, but we still see the impact its left in the horror genre. Konami’s canceled project, Silent Hills, also plays a lot similarly to Resident Evil 7 with its first-person perspective and a lingering sense of dread around every corner. While we never did get Silent Hills, Resident Evil 7 feels a lot like its spiritual successor in many ways.

Since the place is haunted, the mansion is teeming with all sorts of ghosts who will stop at nothing to kill Miku. Instead of guns and pipes, players must use a camera to capture images of these spirits and send them away. Players are basically forced to look at these ghosts since the better the picture, the more damage you deal.
Aside from combat, you must also solve puzzles by using the camera to unlock clues and other useful hints. Fatal Frame’s story leans more into Japanese folklore and drifts from viral outbreaks and zombies. Still, Fatal Frame still shares the same survival horror elements with its scarce healing supplies and film scattered around the map.
