Destiny 2
Games Like Marvel’s Avengers Game
There are quite a few different directions we can go in when it comes to picking out games like the latest Marvel’s Avengers game, but the easiest and most direct comparison to make is with arguably the most popular looter of this generation: Destiny 2.
Destiny 2 shares a lot in common with the Avengers game. In both games you’re playing as a nearly unstoppable superhero of sorts. There’s a power fantasy of you being able to handle hordes of enemies without having too much trouble, provided you’re playing intelligently.
Both games are also very heavy on the loot. You’ll constantly be looking for better armor, better accessories, and better weapons to raise your gear level and survive in harder scenarios.
Where the two differ though, is in focus. Destiny 2 is primarily focused on its gameplay experience. The lore is quite deep, but the story takes a back seat to the endgame experience which is loaded with lots of different things to do including multiple raids.
In Avengers though, the focus (or at least its strength) lies more in its story telling. The campaign is more robust and there are lots of side activities which teach you more about all the different playable Avengers. However, the endgame isn’t nearly as developed as Destiny 2’s.
If you enjoyed the gameplay of Avengers but wanted a bit more on the endgame, Destiny 2 would be a great game to give a shot, especially since a lot of the experience early on is free to play, giving you ample no-risk game time to see if it’s for you.
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3
Games Like Marvel’s Avengers Game
If what you really enjoyed most about the Marvel’s Avengers was smashing things as the Avengers, and you have a Nintendo Switch, then Marvel’s Ultimate Alliance 3 is a game like Marvel’s Avengers that you would enjoy.
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 is a pure beat-em-up with RPG elements in a sense that you can level up and upgrade your favorite Avengers.
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 is less about story, though, and more about the fantasy of playing as almost any Avenger that you can think of.
There is a massive roster and you’ll be playing with them three at a time, meaning you can play with friends locally, online, or solo as you can freely switch to any Avenger in your squad whenever you want.
While Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 doesn’t have the developed endgame that a game like Destiny 2 has, there are certainly high-end challenges to put your team of Avengers to the test throughout the game and at the end of the story.
Diablo 3
Games Like Marvel’s Avengers Game
What if what you liked most about the new Marvel’s Avengers game was the looter gameplay? What you should go for is Diablo 3. Diablo 3 is available on every major current-gen platform and arguably has the most in-depth gear building mechanics of any of the games on this list.
Diablo 3 is a gothic hack and slash looter where you will pick a class, level them up to unlock new skills, and pick up gear that will enhance your attributes and the effects of your abilities.
Diablo 3’s story is quite good but the real hook is the endgame where you’ll be primarily grinding out rifts, which are short, but fast-paced dungeons where you need to kill a certain amount of enemies as fast as possible to summon a boss all before the timer runs out.
There’s a satisfaction that only a Diablo 3 fan can appreciate which comes with refining and perfecting your character’s build to the point where you can run rifts faster and on harder difficulties.
Plus, Diablo 3 might be an effective way to see if the upcoming Diablo 4 might be something you will enjoy before it comes out… some time this decade hopefully.
The Division 2
Games Like Marvel’s Avengers Game
The Division 2 is quite a bit different than Marvel’s Avengers but it does stay within the realm of third-person action if that’s something you enjoy more than anything; Isometric RPGs and first-person shooters aren’t for everyone after all.
The Division 2 is a looter-shooter that, more than any other game on this list, is grounded in realism. It takes place during a near-future, pandemic wrought version of the United States where the government has lost control over most of the country. No, it’s not Covid-19, this isn’t based on true events. However, it does feel a bit more eerie to play these days that’s for sure.
The Division 2 is a shooter through and through, though, and while there are multiple classes that each have weapon specializations and skills that they can use in battle, it’s more focused on the gunplay than anything else.
After you’ve played through the game’s lengthy campaign, you can dive into its well-developed endgame which includes raids, co-op acivities, PvP, and even a PvPvE area known as Dark Zones where you can try forge uneasy alliances to get powerful loot while fending off other players that may not be interested in cooperation.
