Fortnite: How to Tactical Sprint (Xbox, PlayStation, Switch & PC)

With the release of Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 2, there are a number of new mechanics in the game, as well as the brief disabling of building. To help make combat a little more intense — and help you escape the ever-encroaching storm — players have the new options to tactical sprint in Fortnite, and in this guide, we’ll explain what it is and how to do it on PS4, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC, so you’re all set regardless of the platform you’re playing on.

What Is Tactical Sprint?

Tactical Sprint is exactly what it sounds like. It allows you to sprint for a short period of time, allowing you to cover ground faster.

It’s perfect for helping you quickly escape the storm circle closing in on you. With the removal of the building mechanic, it’s also one of the best ways of avoiding incoming enemy fire, as a fast-moving target is certainly harder to hit than a slower one!

Tactical Sprinting in Fortnite

To tactical sprint, you’ll need to press in the left analog stick on PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch consoles.

It’s also known as LS on Xbox, or L3 on PlayStation consoles. For PC players using a mouse and keyboard, press the left shift key on your keyboard.

Keep in mind that the tactical sprint has a small ‘stamina bar’ of sorts that’ll deplete when you use it, found just above your health and shield bars (circled in red in the above screenshot). You’ll need to wait for this to recharge before you can use it again.

Why Is Tactical Sprint Not Working (Unbound)?

If you’ve changed your keybinds and controller inputs in the past, you might have assigned Left Shift or left analog stick to something else. When this is the case, the game won’t be able to assign the ‘Sprint’ option to the default.

To resolve this, go into the Settings on Fortnite and then go to either the Keybinds or Controller Configurations options.

If you’re changing your mouse and keyboard keybinds, select the ‘Sprint’ option and then press the key you’d like to assign it to.

To change your Controller Configuration options, you need to select the Left analog stick option, and then press A/X to bring up the various actions you can assign it to. If you’d rather not assign it to the left analog stick, you can select another button on your controller and assign it to this instead.

Keep in mind that when changing controller configurations, you’ll need to change it for the various different ‘Control’ schemes, so combat and ability.

That’s everything you need to know on tactical sprinting in Fortnite on all platforms. For more tips, tricks and guides on the new season, search for Twinfinite, or see more of our most recent coverage below.
