If you have been paying attention to the Fortnite rumor mill of late, you may have caught wind of a grappling hook that may be making its way to the v5.30 patch on Thursday, Aug. 23. Grappling hooks certainly make everything better, right? Well eager fans wanting more Batman in their Fortnite may want to quell their excitement just a bit. Tomorrow’s patch will actually bring with it a portable rift device, aptly called the Rift-To-Go.

The Rift-To-Go will allow you to teleport above the battlefield and glide down to another area of the map. Any chance to gain some higher ground can be a huge benefit to your game, but it is hard to deny that a grappling hook would have been a pretty fun addition. So where exactly did this rumor come from?

Over on the Fortnite subreddit, a developer had responded to the announcement of the v5.30 patch with a statement that sounded suspiciously like we could be expecting a grappling hook-like device in the next update. MrPopoTFS said on Reddit, “are you a player on the go? Carry an escape plan in your back pocket with a new item making it’s way to Battle Royale!”

Rumors began swirling on reddit that we could be seeing a possible grappling hook added to the game via Thursday’s patch. Jump to this morning, Aug. 22, and Epic has updated the game with details regarding the Rift-To-Go. “A rift you carry in your pocket! Teleport above your current location and glide down.”

No specific release date was announced, but it is currently assumed that this will come as a part of the v5.30 update.
