What the new ability lets you do is camouflage yourself somewhat. You’re slightly faster while moving under the sand and you can sneak past enemies with them being none the wiser that you were ever there, unless they’ve got a very keen eye. One thing that is for certain when you’re under the sand: you’ll be tough to kill.

How to Bury in Sand & Travel Underground in Fortnite

While it’s pretty simple to do, it’s not immediately obvious and you’re not taught it at any time.

What you need to do to bury in sand in Fortnite is simply stand still for long enough. After five seconds or so of not moving, your character will sink into the ground and will make a dome above the surface. If you move at all while standing still, the process will reset and you’ll have to wait the five or so seconds again.

Once you see what’s in the screenshot above, you can travel underground by moving around as normal. You’ll be slightly quicker than usual and the dome of sand will move around, signifying where you are. Then, to get out of the sand, simply press X if you’re on PlayStation (A on Xbox) to jump up. You’ll then be able to attack an enemy if you’ve snuck up on them.

That’s everything you need to know about how to bury in sand and travel underground in Fortnite. For more tips and tricks on the game, be sure to check out our wiki guide or search for Twinfinite.
