Originally announced back at E3 2015, Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 7 Remake is finally out in the wild, and it is indeed a very real video game that you can play on your PS4. The popular Materia system from the original game makes a return here, and as you might expect, you’ll need to accrue AP to level up your Materia orbs to make them stronger. Here’s everything you need to know about the Pedometer Materia in Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

Getting the Pedometer Materia in Final Fantasy 7 Remake

The Pedometer Materia orb can be obtained once you reach chapter 14 of the game. After speaking to Elmyra at Aerith’s house, leave the building and you’ll see it sitting on the ground in the garden. Pick it up, and the description will simply say that it might “do something” if you reach the required step count.

Thankfully, the step count isn’t that high at all, and you only need to hit 5,000 steps with it equipped. Put the Materia on Cloud and start walking, and once you hit 5,000 steps, examine the Materia again and you’ll be rewarded.

AP Up

Once you hit 5,000 steps with the Pedometer Materia, it’ll automatically transform into the much more useful AP Up Materia. As the name suggests, it’ll increase the amount of AP you obtain from each battle by 100%. This allows your Materia to level up much quicker, giving you earlier access to the more powerful spells.

The catch is that you need linked slots on your weapons or accessories for this to work. Put the AP Up Materia in one linked slot, then put another orb in the other linked slot. This will double the AP gains for the second orb and once it’s maxed out, you can swap it for another orb you want to level up.

That’s all you need to know about how the Pedometer Materia works in Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Be sure to search for Twinfinite or check our guide wiki for more tips and information on the game.
