It’s been a whole five years since its initial announcement back at E3 2015, but it’s finally here. Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 7 Remake is finally out, and it’s every bit as glorious as you were hoping for it to be. A lot of the gameplay and combat systems from the original game are back in the remake, including the popular Limit Breaks. Here’s how to use your Limit Break in Final Fantasy 7 Remake.
Using Limit Breaks in Final Fantasy 7 Remake
Back in the original game, your characters could build up a Limit meter next to their HP and MP bars in the bottom corner of the screen. Once it was completely filled, you’d be able to use a special ability called a Limit Break to deal tons of damage to your foes. That system is back in Final Fantasy 7 Remake, and it looks even better than ever.
For the most part, the system works in exactly the same way as the original game. As you take damage from enemies you’ll build it up. You can check it progress in the bottom right corner of the screen, where it’ll be visible for each character you have in your party.
Once it’s completely filled, it’ll start to flash yellow. When this happens, press X to open the command menu and enter tactical mode, then choose the Limit option at the very bottom of the menu. Using your Limit Break does not consume any MP or ATB charges, and it deals a massive amount of damage, so use it as you please.
It’s worth noting that Limit progress does not persist in between battles, so there’s no point in trying to save it –just use it whenever the opportunity arises, or tactically if you’re in a long boss battle such as when the boss is staggered.
When in battle, the bar will tend to fill up more quickly for the character you’re controlling, since it generally focuses its attention on you. It’ll still fill up for the other two characters, but if you want Limit progress to go up faster, you’ll want to be constantly switching between party members to be more efficient.
How to Change
As you play through the game, it is possible to obtain more Limit Break abilities for your characters through the Colosseum challenges. To change them up, bring up the menu, go to Battle Settings, select a character, then select the Limit Break option. From here, choose the ability you want to set for that character.
To recap, here’s how to use the Limit Break in Final Fantasy 7 Remake:
- While in battle, keep performing actions like attacks, abilities, and spells to build up the yellow bar in the bottom right corner of the screen.
- Once it’s full, press X to open the command menu and choose the Limit option.
