In Shadowbringers, FATEs now reward players with more than just experience points. Additionally, players will also receive bicolor gemstones upon completing FATEs in 5.0 areas, and this currency can then be exchanged with Gemstone Trader NPCs for various goods.

As you continue to complete FATEs in these new areas, Gemstone Traders NPCs – which are found in settlements and towns – will offer a wider selection of rarer and more useful items and gear. Essentially you can level areas up (so to speak) to unlock new items from the vendors.

To view your progress in each area, select Shared FATE under Travel in the main menu. You’ll be able to view the number of gemstones you have in the top right-hand corner of the window.

We’re expecting Shadowbringers to add a lot of depth in terms of the number of FATEs players can experience, and we’ll keep this guide updated with new information moving forward.

Either way though, it’s certainly good to know that FATEs will be more useful than just as a way to EXP when the duty queues are too long.
