How to Get Possum Badges, Scout Badges & World Badges in Fallout 76

Recommended Videos

Joining the Pioneer Scouts can earn you a very useful backpack in addition to many powerful (and fashionable) backpack mods. You’ll need to first prove your merit, though, by earning Scout World Badges. Here’s how to get the badges you need to earn/upgrade your backpack in Fallout 76.

Badges in Fallout 76

Just like the real-life Boy Scouts, as a member of the Pioneer Scouts you can earn badges by completing challenges in the Fallout 76 world. The type of badges you’ll earn from completing these challenges depends on your rank in the faction.

If you’ve just joined the Pioneer Scouts and have not yet earned a backpack, the Scout World Challenges will reward you with “Tadpole” badges. If you’ve reached the rank of Possum, you’ll receive “Possum” badges for the completion of Challenges scattered across the map. In addition, Possum will be the type of badge you’ll need to buy yourself backpack upgrades.

How to Earn Scout World Challenge Badges

In order to earn yourself badges, you’ll have to first locate the list of tasks (known as Scout World Challenges) available in the world. You can find the list of badges you can earn by opening the Map, selecting Challenges, then World, and then scrolling down past the usual Atom-earning jobs.

Each badge will have a name and multiple objectives to go with it. You’ll need to complete all of these objectives in order to earn the badge. For example:

Tadpole: Archer

  • Pass “Archer” knowledge exam
  • Complete the Pioneer Scouts shooting test
  • Craft 50 Crossbow Bolts
  • Repair 3 Crossbows
  • Kill 50 enemies with a Crossbow

This would grant you one Tadpole badge needed for the first Pioneer Scout quest.

Possum Badges

You can finally start earning Possum badges after you’ve completed The Order of the Tadpole questline and earned yourself a backpack. Possum badge challenges can be found in the exact same place as the Tadpole variety (Map > Challenges > World), and you’ll also have to complete multiple objectives in order to earn them.

Fortunately the tasks aren’t the same as the Tadpole challenges, but unfortunately, they’re significantly more difficult and time-consuming. Here’s an example of a typical Possum Badge’s requirements:

Possum: Photographer

  • Craft camera film
  • Mod a Camera
  • Pass “Photographer” knowledge exam
  • Take a camera picture at night
  • Take a camera picture at sunrise
  • Take a camera picture at sunset
  • Take a camera picture while it’s foggy
  • Take a camera picture while it’s raining
  • Take a camera picture of a Cargobot
  • Take a camera picture of the Charleston Capital Building
  • Take a camera picture of Grafton Dam
  • Take a camera picture of New River Gorge Bridge
  • Take a camera picture of a Scorchbeast
  • Take a camera picture of Top of the World
  • Take a camera picture of a Vertibot
  • Take a camera picture of a Wendigo

Tips for earning Possum Badges

Besides the Scout World Challenges, Possum Badges have been reported to drop from Daily Challenges and from the Pioneer Scout repeatable missions: “Campfire Tales”, “Tidy”, and “Strings and Things”. However, it seems that World Challenges are the primary way that Bethesda intends players to earn badges in Fallout 76.

That wraps up everything you need to know about earning badges in Fallout 76. For more guides, walkthroughs, and tricks for the game (including how to get backpacks and backpack mods), be sure to check out our FO76 guide wiki.
