Here’s How to Get Weapons Mods in Fallout 76

With Fallout 76 out now, millions of players around the world are scavenging, murdering and partying their way through the rugged (and freshly-nuked) wasteland of West Virginia. Because of the various hazards — robots, ghouls, fabled creatures and of course, other players — players will need the best guns they can get their hands on if they want to survive. While nabbing a great gun will certainly help on the journey, it’s not until you take your weapon to the next level with a mod that you take your survival skills to the next level as well. Here’s how to get weapon mods in Fallout 76.

How to Get Weapon Mods

There are two main ways to get these mods in Fallout 76 and fortunately, both are quite easy. The first way to obtain one requires you to do something that you will be doing time and time again in the game: scrapping weapons.

Scrapping weapons is not only something you’ll be doing often in Fallout 76, but it’s also extremely useful and that’s because whenever you scrap a weapon at a workbench (can be any workbench), you will usually receive some sort of customization option or mod. You can use this customization option or mod to upgrade and improve your weapons.

The second way to obtain these mods requires a more keen eye and that’s because you need to be on the lookout for slightly-larger-than-a-shoe-box-sized boxes. They’re also brown and wooden.

These boxes are scattered throughout West Virginia and within, there is usually a weapon mod.

What They Do

At their most basic level, weapon mods do just that: mod the weapon. Modding a weapon usually changes not only how the weapon looks, but how it performs as well. A mod might make a weapon more powerful, give it enhanced range, a faster fire speed, make it more accurate, or something else entirely. Just know that when you mod a weapon, you are in for a drastic change.

How to Repair and Upgrade Weapons With Mods

To repair and upgrade weapons with mods, you first need to go to a workbench. Press Y or Triangle when you’re at one and this should pull up a menu about repairing and modifying weapons.

To repair, press Triangle or Y again and you should get the option to repair them if you have the materials. If you’re looking to upgrade or modify your weapon, you need to press X or A on the modification category. Then, go down the list of upgrades and modifications for the specific element of your gun you wish to upgrade or modify.

Press X or A to modify and you’re all done.
