How to Beat Magma Wyrm Boss in Elden Ring

As its name suggests, the Magma Wyrm will regularly come at you with fire-based attacks. So, before even stepping foot in the boss room, be sure to use items that boost fire resistance, get Sorceries or Ashes of War that apply cold damage, and even equip gear like the Flamedrake Talisman to boost fire damage negation even more.

The Flamedrake Talisman is dropped early on by the Beastman of Farum Azula in the Groveside Cave in Limgrave. The Frozen Armament Sorcery can be obtained from a Teardrop Scarab just behind Caria Manor, near the Three Sisters area. The Chilling Mist Ash of War can also be found by killing a Scarab in Three Sisters, just south of Renna’s Rise.

Magma Wyrm Boss Fight

The main source of difficulty for this fight is the fact that the room is so small and the wyrm can cover the floor with magma that sticks around for some time. You also can’t summon a Spirit Ash outside the door, so you’ll need to do it as soon as the fight starts, which gives the wyrm an opening to attack right off the bat.

Summon your favorite Spirit Ashes, then roll out of the way immediately because the wyrm will charge at the door. The spirits will distract it right away, giving you the opportunity to get to its tail. The key to this fight is to stay on the Magma Wyrm’s tail for as long as possible while dealing as much damage as possible. This is the perfect strategy for melee builds.

As for ranged builds, this might be slightly tougher because of the confined space. Also, the wyrm has a sword that it can, and will, swing to cover more ground. It can also shoot fireballs, of course. Thankfully, the sword swipes and fireballs are telegraphed and slow. The real danger for ranged fighters is when the Magma Wyrm rushes at you while magma falls from its mouth, causing fire damage and leaving a trail of magma on the ground.

This is why it’s important to stay near its side, hind legs, and tail since it can’t turn around too quickly. Sometimes, it’ll do a small slam as an AOE attack to deal damage on all sides of its body, but this is easy to roll and avoid or block as well. Most of the time, if you’re behind it, it’ll try to slowly rotate to face the right direction. Try to rotate with it to stay out of trouble.

The good news here is that there didn’t seem to be a second phase — at least not when I beat it — so, keep the pressure up while avoiding the wyrm’s mouth to win the fight in no time. And as a reward for your troubles, the boss will drop the Moonveil katana, which is one of the best swords in the game for Int-based builds.
